Information Sheet 9 - Mental Health and Ex-Service Personnel (Veterans)

Our latest Information Sheet outlines some of the primary mental health care needs of ex-service personnel (or veterans) across Wales.

The aim of Information Sheet 9 - Mental Health and Ex-Service Personnel (Veterans) is to provide their current or new GPs with advice on how best to help veterans whose health has been affected by their military service.

Veterans are the men and women who have served in the armed forces (either regular or reserve) who have now left to rejoin civilian life.

The Welsh Government has promised to help and support people in the armed forces following their service and it has launched the All Wales Veterans Health and Wellbeing Service for Veterans as part of this commitment.

This service is being developed and implemented across Wales by Local Health Boards (LHBs) and will provide expert treatment locally for veterans - for further information please visit www.veteranswales.co.uk.

Our Information Sheets are part of our aim to improve mental health services and have been developed to provide valuable information, training and support tools on primary care mental health in Wales.

The publication of our Information Sheets come under the set objectives or our Gold Standard Project which has set the goal of providing good communication on mental health issues at the heart of its work.

All our Information Sheets are available to download and view from our Information Sheets page.

If you have any questions about Information Sheet 9 or trouble downloading it please contact our Project Manager Lesley Hills via email at lhills@rcgp.org.uk or on 029 2050 4516.
