Bursaries

The winners of the 2013 WaMH in PC Bursaries programme has now closed.

Due to funding issues there will not be a bursary scheme in 2014. We are actively seeking an alternative funding source and, if successful in finding one, details of the new WaMH in PC bursary awards will be published here so please keep checking for updates.

In total 6 bursary applications were received this year and the final winners this year were as follows:

The aim of a WaMH in PC Bursary

The 2013 round of WaMH in PC bursaries aimed to encourage innovation in the following areas through the provision of small grants up to a maximum of £3,000:

  • Improve the experience of dementia patients and their carers
  • Supporting the local delivery of Part 1 of the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010.
  • Raise awareness of mental health or impact on mental wellbeing or improve mental health promotion

A WaMH in PC bursary could enable you to deliver a project that makes a significant difference to the people you work with, whilst demonstrating the key features of positive relationships, such as:

  • Person Centredness

Who can apply?

Anyone with a link to Primary Care Mental Health in Wales and those able to demonstrate a clear and justifiable benefit in relation to the aims of a WaMH in PC bursary.

Application Categories

Category 1 - To improve the experience of dementia patients and their carers

To apply for a category 1 bursary individuals and organisations must:

  • Work within - or be associated with - the provision of primary care mental health services in Wales

Category 2 - To support the local delivery of Part 1 of the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010

 To apply for a category 2 bursary individuals and or/organisations must:

  • Work within - or be associated with - the provision of primary care mental health services in Wales

Category 3 - Raise awareness of mental health, or impact on mental wellbeing or improve mental health promotion

To apply for a category 3 bursary, applicants are invited from services and organisations from both within and outside the NHS and must:

  • Evidence a demonstrable link and benefit to primary care mental health in Wales

Note: Previous WaMH in PC bursary winners are eligible to apply for a bursary provided they have fulfilled all the terms of their previous award.

Eligibility Criteria for ALL Categories

Applicants should aim to demonstrate:

  •  Evidence of the 3 hallmarks of positive relationships:

        ** Maintaining Trust
        ** Good Communication
        ** Shared Vales of Person Centredness

  • A focus on innovation
  • Planned outcomes for dissemination, sustainability and evaluation

Application Process

Applicant(s) must:

  • Confirm which category or categories their application applies to
  • Complete an application form
  • Demonstrate clear links to the eligibility criteria
  • Provide a financial statement
  • Agree, if successful, to showcase your Grant Project at a WaMH in PC event and provide a short abstract describing the Grant Project for inclusion on the WaMH in PC website
  • Ensure that your bursary application form and supporting documentation is received by no later than 31st December 2012

Terms and Conditions

Your application will only be assessed if:

  • You meet the eligibility criteria set our above
  • Your application form and supporting documentation is received by the closing date of 31st December 2012
  • Your application form is completed and submitted correctly.  Incomplete and unsigned applications will not be returned for correction but deemed to be ineligible and will not be assessed

Judging Process

The judging panel is appointed by the WaMH in PC core group for a period of one year.

The judging panel will include - as a minimum - someone who uses primary care services/a carer, a General Practitioner,a  mental health professional and a policy maker.

The core group may appoint additional judges to the panel as necessary and these will be an appointed Chair (from the core group) of the judging panel who will have the casting vote in any split decision on awarding bursaries.
