WaMH in PC Conference 2013: 'The BATHE Technique'

This year's WaMH in PC ‘Really Useful Conference’ will be held at Cheltenham Racecourse on Wednesday 9 October looking at innovative approaches in primary care mental health.

You can download the full agenda on the following link - 2013 Conference Agenda - and the afternoon session will be split up into a series of workshops including the following session on the 'BATHE Technique':

Workshop: The BATHE Technique
Speaker: Chair of Primhe and GP in Tipton Dr Ian Walton MB, BS & MRCGP and South London GP Dr Henk Parmentier MD & DFFP

The BATHE technique effectively turns a physical consultation into a mind-body one, allowing a patient to get in touch with their feelings and then focus on the most pressing problem.

They then show the practitioner how to hand the problem back to the patient, whilst still showing them human love and understanding, all in a primary care consultation time.

The simple but incredibly effective sequence the technique is named after is:

  • Background - What is going on in your life?
  • Affect - How do you feel about that?
  • Trouble - What troubles you most about that?
  • Handling - How are you handling that?
  • Empathy - That must be very difficult for you?

Run in conjunction with primhe (Primary Care Mental Health and Education), our conference is focussed on bringing mental health professionals and organisations together in a collaborative setting.

Delegate fees are £125 per person for the event with free CPR training available on a first-come-first-served basis. To book your place please download and fill in our Registration Form.
