WaMH in PC Conference 2013: 'Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)'

This year's WaMH in PC ‘Really Useful Conference’ will be held at Cheltenham Racecourse on Wednesday 9 October looking at innovative approaches in primary care mental health.

Workshop: Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
Speaker: Professor Tony Stewart: Professor in Public Health, Stafford University 

This workshop will provide an outline of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), including its history, application and uses. 

An overview of EFT’s effectiveness will also be given, including the results of a service evaluation carried out by the author on the EFT service in Sandwell, West Midlands. 

Run in conjunction with primhe (Primary Care Mental Health and Education), our conference is focussed on bringing mental health professionals and organisations together in a collaborative setting.

Delegate fees are £125 per person for the event with free CPR training available on a first-come-first-served basis. To book your place please download and fill in our Registration Form.

This year's WaMH in PC ‘Really Useful Conference’ will be held at Cheltenham Racecourse on Wednesday 9 October looking at innovative approaches in primary care mental health.

Workshop: Safeguarding
Speaker: Dr Venetia Young: Safeguarding Lead GP Eden Valley CCG / Retired GP 

The aim of the workshop is to:

  • Provide a framework for thinking about the safeguarding of children and adults in the Primary Care setting
  • Explain by the example of work in progress at the Lakes Medical Practice in Penrith - simple measures that can make communication between agencies and within the practice easier and safer around these issues
  • Discuss what the training issues for clinicians really are, apart from the demands of Level 3 and 4 competencies

This year's WaMH in PC ‘Really Useful Conference’ will be held at Cheltenham Racecourse on Wednesday 9 October looking at innovative approaches in primary care mental health.

Workshop: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Workshop
Speaker: Pam Virdi: EMDR Europe Accredited Consultant and Psychotherapist Lecturer / Trainer and Supervisor

Dr Derek Farrell: Senior Lecturer in Psychology, University of Worcester Participants will be introduced to EMDR as an evidence based psychological treatment for PTSD and other psychological conditions.

At the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Describe the nature of traumatic memory
  • Discuss the range of conditions for which EMDR can be used
  • Describe the theoretical underpinning of EMDR
  • Name the various methods of bilateral stimulation
  • Outline some of the key research studies on the role of eye-movement in EMDR
